Intercultural Education in the Museum

Through its educational function, the Ethnographic and the Historical Museum at the beginning of the 2 1 st century are called to support the process of constructing a new spirituality based on tolerance in the perception of the otherness in its historical, confessional, social and cultural forms. In this regard, the intercultural perspective in the educational activities of the ethnographic and historical museum is a shared view, based on mutual knowledge, dialogue and interaction between cultures while preserving the identity of each of them. The role of these museums as part of the “national narrative” is also very important, but in the context of Bulgaria’s European orientation.
The article presents highlights from a study of the need and importance of modern intercultural educational programs for ethnographic and historical museums.
Conclusions from a functional analysis of the role of Bulgarian museums in intercultural dialogue in the period from 2012 to 2020 are presented. The analysis was performed using the qualitative study method.
In this context, the results of a study of the opinion of museum specialists and directors of ethnographic and historical museums in Bulgaria on the role of the museum for effective intercultural dialogue are interpreted. The in-depth interview method was used.
