About the Journal

The Annual of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” - Faculty of History (hereinafter referred to as “the Annual,” “the Journal,” or “GSU-IF,” an abbreviation of the Bulgarian name of the Journal) is a scholarly periodical published by the “St. Kliment Ohridski” University Press. This journal is the result of the joint efforts of its contributors and the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board is composed of scholars and individuals associated with Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” (Bulgaria), as well as editors from international academic institutions.

The Annual is the oldest periodical of Sofia University, it was first published in 1905, and plays an important role in the academic life of the University. It serves as an authoritative tribune for the authors, enabling them to familiarise the academic community with their research and achievements. Since 1977, the Faculty of History has been publishing its own edition of the Annual, which is written by established scholars from Bulgaria and abroad, as well as young researchers presenting the results of their first research. Among the contributors are Prof. Alexander Foll, Acad. Vasil Gyuzelev, Prof. Nikolay Genchev, Prof. Krumka Sharova, Prof. Georgi Bakalov, Prof. Milcho Lalkov, Prof. Tsvetana Georgieva and many others.

AIMS AND SCOPE

As a well-established academic journal, GSU-IF’s explicit aim is to draw the attention of authors and readers to the scholarly reconstruction of historical events and the dissemination of reliable historical analyses and theses. The journal emphasises macro- and micro-history, the diversity of historical events, dynamic processes in the past and present, and encourages the exploration of new research methods and techniques. It is committed to publishing innovative ideas and interpretations. The journal publishes research in the following areas:

  • History Didactics

The Annual is intended for a national and international audience, which requires a high standard of quality from the authors, editors and reviewers involved in the publication process. The published articles and materials are systematically organised into different sections covering a wide range of topics and issues within the field of history. The Editorial Board invites submissions that make a significant contribution to the relevant academic field.

The journal is published annually, with occasional special issues.
